Simple Thoughts & Basic Christianity

Purpose, meaning, a reason for living - these are all things we desire and search for in life. Despite steps each one of us takes to find purpose and meaning in life, we still feel empty, unfulfilled. Thats because there is a spiritual emptiness in each of our lives. We each have a hole in our heart, a spiritual vacuum deep within our soul - a God shaped blank. Possessions won't fill this hole, nor will success. Relationships alone can not satisfy this emptiness, and morality, in and of itsels, falls miserably short of occupying this space. In fact, even religion can not fill the void in our heart. There is only one way to effectively fill that void. This way will not only help us to have a life that is full and rich on this earth but more important will give us the absolute hope of spending eternity in the presence of God.

Who is God"Who is the Lord that I should listen to him?" Thats a good question, but it is not an easy subject to tackle. It is difficult for our limited minds to grasp the limitless, eternal God. If God were small enough for our minds, he wouldn't be big enough for your needs.

2 PETER 3:5-9
5 They deliberately forget that God made the heavens by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed. 8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
ROMANS 11:33-36
33
Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! 34 For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? 35 And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?36 For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Sin
The bible clearly identifies our serious problems as sin. Sin is not just an act but the actual nature of our being. IN other words, we are not sinners because we sin rather we sin because we are sinners. " The human heart is the most deceitful of all things and desperatly wicked." Do not let your heart lead you but you lead your heart. I live a good life, I try to be kind and considerate to others. I live by the ten commandments. The truth of the matter is that the ten commandments, or the law as they are called in the bible were not given to make us good but to show us how bad we are. The bible tells us, no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands.

PSALM 51:5-14
5 For I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.
6  But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.
7 Purify me from my sins,[b] and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me—now let me rejoice.
9 Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. 13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.

Forgiviness
One of the great principles of the Christian life is forgiveness. Jesus completely forgave us and he wants us to follow his example by forgiving others. For a Christian no wrong is to great or to small to forgive and you can't choose to forgive someone and not forgive others. When you choose to forgive you experience true freedon.

MARK 11:2525 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.

Marriage
Marriage is like a mirror. It reflects what it sees. If a marriage is strong, it is because the husband and wife have put alot of hard work into. If a marriage is weak, it is because the husband or wife or both have neglected it. God never intended for anyone to have a weak marriage. His design for marriage is a lifelong, fulfilling companionship. A marriage works when a couple follows God's specific design for the husband and the wife. Sexual intimacy is ment to be enjoyed only within the bounds of the marriage relationship. God promises punishment to those who commit adultery or lead immoral lives.

Matthew 19:4-6
4 “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female. 5 And he said, ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. 6 Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”
Ephesians 5:21-33
21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.
25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body. 31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Hebrews 13:4
4 Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.

Children
God's plan is to build, strengthen and protect the family. Satan's plan is to undermine, weaken and destroy it. Make no mistake, satan has declared war on the family. Tragically many of us have been willing accomplices. Why? Because the bulk of the problems in our culture today can be directly traced to the breakdown of the family or to homes in which biblical principles are ignored or disobeyed. This not only includes husband and wives splitting apart but also "alternative families" such as homosexual relationships and live-in-lovers. Such relationships will never be blessed or honored by God for they are clearly outside the parameters of his will. Teaching your children to love the Lord in their earlier years will help them stay true to the Lord later in life. The gospel must be first preached in the home. Your devotion to God or lack of it will make a resounding impression on the next generation.

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
11 And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children. 12 We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his Kingdom and glory.
Hebrews 12:5-6
5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said,
“My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t give up when he corrects you.
6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”
Colossians 3:20-21
20 Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.

Priorities and being a Christian
As a Christian one of the most dramatic changes in your life will be the way you spend your time. Your pursuits and ambitions in life will be different. After all you are no longer living for your self but for God. Don't get so caught up in serving the Lord that you forget to worship him.  Sins and other distractions can negatively affect your prayer life and relationship with God.  A true Christian friend will help you get through times of trouble and temptation. Bad company corrupts good character so seek the friendship of those who live as Christ intended. Loving God and others gives us real purpose and meaning in life. As we humble ourselves before a holy God we will be blessed. True followers of Christ entrust their future into God's hands because he knows what is best for us.
